BAC's philosophy is to have their Cooling Tower performance CTI (Cooling Tower Institute) certified. All BAC Cooling Towers are manufactured under ISO 9000 to ensure repeatability of manufacturing standards and tolerances.
Most cooling tower manufacturers are receiving certification from an independent body which verifies the performance claims within their literature and selection software. This process is called CTI Certification and is described in CTI Standard STD-201. The purpose of CTI STD-201 is to provide a procedure whereby the Cooling Technology Institute certifies that all models of a line of Cooling Towers offered for sale by the manufacturer will perform in accordance with the manufacturer's published ratings. Worldwide there are over 70 cooling tower lines making available more than 8,500 Certified Models to choose from.
This program provides customers with the assurance that CTI Certified Cooling Towers will perform as represented to negate the requirement of expensive field performance testing. The cost of which has already been borne by the manufacturer.
To obtain Certification, an independent body tests the product line utilizing the procedures set forth in CTI Code ATC-105 and compares the results to published claims. Every year, a re-verification test is performed on another model within the product line by the independent body to confirm that the as-built product is faithful to the original expectations. The confidence given to the industry has allowed specifications to delete the requirement for additional and expensive field acceptance tests to CTI Acceptance Test Code ATC 105 by the Cooling Technology Institute or other independent third party testing agency.
Cooling towers can be sized neatly for a particular project without false safety margins. There is no need to test the cooling tower beyond inspections for adequate ventilation, appropriately connected pipework, shipping damage, checking of power supply, fan rotation and drive setup etc.
